The person specification is split into essential and desirable characteristics. You will need to meet all of the essential criteria, and it would be beneficial if your skills and qualifications also meet those listed in the desirable category.
Completing the application:

Your application form is the main way the selection panel will assess your qualifications, experience, skills, and knowledge against the person specification, so it is important to ensure that you clearly demonstrate how you meet these criteria. Please note that we can only accept a CV alongside a completed application form; feel free to send this with your application.
The job description will specify whether the role is required to be filled by someone who is “in sympathy with” or “committed to” the aims and values of Church Mission Society. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to get in touch at any time. Please note that all roles are subject to safeguarding and basic DBS checks and some posts may be subject to enhanced DBS check depending on the degree of involvement with children and/or vulnerable adults.
We will ask for three referees. At least one of these should know you in a professional capacity, ideally your current or most recent employer. Please ensure you have permission from your referees before providing us with their details. Normally we will only take up references once a role has been appointed but if you don’t wish us to contact your referees at this stage, please indicate this in your application and we will wait for your consent.

After you have applied:

We aim to shortlist within two weeks of the closing date and will be in touch with all candidates by email to inform you whether or not you have been shortlisted by the selection panel.
Attending an interview:
Normally the shortlisting panel will be made up of those who will be interviewing to ensure consistency. Whether or not you are successful in your application will be dependent upon how closely you match the criteria required in the person specification. It is done on a points based system following the categories listed in the job description.
You will most likely be required to undertake a test and/or presentation as part of the interview. If any preparation is required for this, all information will be given to you prior to the interview.
All details you will require such as directions, additional instructions, and Church Mission Society’s aims and values will be sent as part of your invitation to interview.
You will be required to bring your valid passport with you at interview stage as proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the UK. If you do not have a passport (or it is expired), please contact us prior to your interview and we will send you a list of documents that can be considered instead of a valid passport.
We suggest the dress code for interviews to be smart.
If you are a citizen of countries other than the UK, Switzerland and those in the European Economic Area (EEA), you must already have a valid work permit and visa in order to reside and work in the UK. Please send us copies of all necessary documents along with your application.
