Pay tribute to a loved one in a lasting way

By Hannah Caroe

If you have lost a loved one, please accept our condolences. Some people choose to ask at the funeral for donations to come to Church Mission Society in lieu of flowers. If you decide to do this, we would be very grateful. For more information or to request donation envelopes, please contact me on hannah.caroe@churchmissionsociety.org or 01865 787521.

Remember someone special with a tribute page

We would like to offer a sensitive way to help you and family and friends remember your loved one, and commemorate them richly. We invite you to create a Much Loved tribute page, in a simple and straightforward way.

Margaret Caroe, Hannah's late mumMy mother, Margaret Caroe (right), was a CMS mission partner in Sierra Leone in the 1970s. She died in 2011, and I was devastated. It took a long time to feel peaceful again.

I recently created a tribute page in her memory. The website is very easy to use – you can add pictures, stories, thoughts, even music, or ‘light a candle’ and invite friends and family to do the same. You are allowed to choose whether or not the site is public, and the site creator is asked to ‘approve’ every contribution before it is added.

I am finding creating the page a moving, meaningful and helpful process. It is wonderful to look at pictures and stories from my Mum’s life all in one place, and I think the page looks beautiful.

Through creating the page, I heard from an old nursing colleague of my Mum’s, who hadn’t known she had passed away. She asked me to share some of mum’s life story for an upcoming reunion. A lovely connection!

I trekked to Machu Picchu in mum’s memory (listed as an ‘event’ on the page), raising over £5,000 for CMS.

I have also chosen to set up the page to receive donations in memory of my mum for CMS.

If you feel it would be helpful for you and others, we invite you too to create a tribute page
