Director of Projects

Our partners at the Association for Cooperation and Transformation (ACT), in Tunisia, are looking for a Director of Projects. The candidate is required to be qualified, highly motivated and competent with relevant experience.

The goal of the Director is to:

  • share responsibility with the Directors Team for the development and direction of ACT
  • provide leadership and direction for all project activities of ACT
  • manage and develop the interface between ACT and its local partners for these activities
  • to manage and develop the interaction between ACT’s project work and its funders 

 

The specific activities are as follows:

  • leading the strategic and tactical development of all of ACT’s project and professional work, to establish clearly defined strategy and objectives for each sector of ACT’s work 
  • supporting and developing sector coordinators, and work in the sectors, through: strategy and planning, training and coaching, resourcing and reporting, support and reflection
  • ensuring the good management of all administrative and financial aspects of project and professional work
  • working with the Director of Personnel and Sector Coordinators to ensure: recruitment and placement of project staff, the professional development of ACT staff through work appraisals and development plans, sharing of knowledge and expertise between sectors
  • working with the General Director and others to ensure: the development, communication and reporting of ACT’s project work with the ACT board, donors and funding organisations, the development of ACT’s partnerships with international, national and local organisations, including: negotiation of agreements and protocols with international groups, Tunisian Government Ministries and Tunisian partner organisations, development of annual action plans with partners, periodic reviews with local, national and international partners, in liaison with Sector Coordinators
  • to serve as a member of the Directors’ Team, Coordinating Committee, Finance Committee, and other groups as required

 

The required skills and qualifications are:

  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • training in leadership
  • committed Christian accepted by one of ACT’s Member Bodies
  • experience of development work in an NGO context; understanding of and commitment to transformational development
  • project development and management experience
  • fluent communicator in English – both written and spoken; working knowledge of French
  • willingness to commit to 6 months intensive learning of Tunisian Arabic and then on-going language learning
  • networking abilities

 

It is also desirable that the candidate should have:

  • experience of working in North Africa
  • experience working within a multi-cultural team setting
  • ability to give training or coaching to team members

Successful candidates will have relevant qualifications and experience.

Our placements are self-funding with extensive support in fundraising given to those who serve long-term (4+ years). All placements are subject to DBS clearance. Church Mission Society is only able to directly test the calling of those who are rooted in UK/European churches.

Terms and conditions depend upon the location of each opening and the duration of the placement offered. Short-term opportunities (4 months to 2 years) are self-funded, with CMS offering residential, cross-cultural training. Long-term mission partners serve for 4-6 years minimum. We work on a fully resourced basis to ensure your funding, learning and support are in place together, through connecting to local churches and your wider networks. Individualised learning plans are developed for preparation and during service for those on long-term service.
