Prayer news 27 July 2017

In the day that I called to you, you answered me;
you put new strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3

South Sudan

From CMS-Africa: Thank God for a local partner who is recovering well since the horrendous attack he suffered in the hands of errant soldiers in Juba. Continue praying for the nation of South Sudan to experience peace as the Lord intervenes in the whole situation. The numbers of refugees as a result of the conflicts have continued are anything towards two million people, according to UNHCR.

Inauguration of the new Province of Sudan

As we highlighted last week, this Sunday 30 July sees this significant event in Khartoum. The Archbishop of Canterbury will be in attendance with a host of church leaders and guests, including CMS’s Stephen Burgess. Let us pray for Archbishop Ezekiel Kondo as he leads a new chapter in the church in Sudan.

VISION Conference training for South Sudanese Diaspora

Pray for a proposed VISION Conference training seminar planned for 21-26 August in Nairobi for the South Sudan Diaspora. This will be a follow-up training to the seminar that took place in April this year. Pray for all the participants who will attend this event, which aims to embed a biblical worldview of Monday-to-Saturday Christianity with the local church making an impact in their community using the resources they already have.

Mission partners needed for Asia!

Please continue to earnestly pray for more people to offer for long term service in Asia. We have many exciting and pioneering opportunities, working alongside local partners in situations that are of course challenging but with huge creative potential.

Short termer back from India

Give thanks for short termer David Veldmeijer’s safe return form placement in India and pray for him as he processes all he has experienced and learned.

Young Asian ‘theologisers’

Give thanks for a workshop which just took place in India, where a group of young Christians, male and female, from a wide variety of backgrounds, took part in ‘theologising through art’. Pray for them as they put together and share work from the project – a join initiative between CMS and Church of South India.

Asia mission partners

Please pray for healing for the son of (anonymous) mission partners who injured a finger in a very nasty way.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Dennis Tongoi in the UK

Dennis Tongoi, international director of CMS-Africa is in the UK for a few days. Dennis will be retiring next year. Pray for various meetings well be having to plan together for the future and thank God for Dennis’s prophetic, inspirational and fruitful leadership of CMS-Africa.

CMS team at festivals

Please keep praying for the teams at New Wine and Naturally Supernatural. Both festivals are going well, engagement is good and CMS presence is felt. Dennis Tongoi and Philip Mounstephen led a seminar on Wednesday at New Wine – pray for the impact on those listening – may God use what they heard in their lives.

Trustees meet

Please pray for the trustees of Church Mission Society, who have their annual residential meeting coinciding with the People in Mission gathering at All Nations today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday). Pray for spirit-filled deliberations.

Latin America

Brazil short termers

Becky Reid (short termer, Revive in Recife, Brazil) was due to be married to Evaldo in September, but he was refused a marriage visa twice to enter the UK. They were due to be selected as a couple to be short termers with a view to mission partner selection next year. This has thrown their plans and cost them money. Please pray for a good solution, for Becky as she needs funding to return to Brazil and for Evaldo as he looks for work as a lawyer in Recife

New mission partner in Guatemala

Azaria Spencer flew to Guatemala on Thursday 26th to work with Mi Arca (Street Kids Direct), Duncan Dyason and fellow mission partners Mark and Rosalie Balfour. Please pray for Azaria as she settles in and especially for her language study.

Northern Argentina

Bishop Nick Drayson and Rev David Stokes ask for prayer for wisdom in deciding the future use of the mission centre in Juarez and for peace in the relationship between the indigenous people and the settlers in Juarez where there has been considerable unrest.

Chile: Bishop Alf Cooper

Alf is finishing as pastor of La Trinidad, Las Condes, Santiago, and asks for prayer for the appointment of his successor.

Mission Paraguay

Please pray for all those on the Mission Paraguay team which arrived on 22 July (David, Eve, John, Christine, Paul, John and Sue) staying in and working with the parish of Zeballos Cue in Asuncion – Pastor Luis and his wife Regina.
