Bursaries available for Asian MA stream
Bursaries available for Asian MA stream
If you are interested in questions of Christian faith focused on Asia and Asian Christians, the CMS MA has 50% bursaries available for study this September.
by Nuam Hatzaw,
How do Christians in Asia navigate their faith, traditional practices, and cultural identities? How do they witness and do mission in multi-religious environments? What impact does colonialism, socio-economic inequality, and environmental degradation have on how Christians in Asia view God? Why is Christianity growing so rapidly in many parts of Asia?
If these questions, and others like it, are of interest to you, why not consider signing up for the MA Asian Christianity stream offered by CMS? We have three bursaries for 50% off tuition fees available for successful applicants.
CMS MA in Theology, Ministry, and Mission
The Asian Christianity stream of CMS’s MA in Theology, Ministry, and Mission offers students the chance to study the richness and diversity of Christian expression in Asia as well as its dispersion to and expressions around the world.
Taught fully online, topics covered include the long but oft-forgotten history of Christianity in Asia; how Christians on and from the continent have responded to the challenges of being a minority religion; and the diverse ways of being church in various Asian and diasporic contexts.
The award is validated by Durham University, as part of the Common Awards scheme. It is also an option as an ordination training pathway for ordinands in the Church of England. This is delivered in partnership with Ripon College Cuddesdon.
The course is fully online, allowing students to remain engaged in their contexts while participating in an active and stimulating learning community.
An intercultural experience
Crucially, the Asian Christianity stream runs alongside our other MA streams in African Christianity and Pioneer Ministry. This allows students to engage in a focused study of aspects of Asian Christianity while also learning through dialogue with students from other parts of the world.
Through this intentional shared learning experience, students benefit from interacting with and learning from those outside their context of study and practice.
This intentional intercultural approach recognises the diversity of the church worldwide and the fruitful insights that hearing other voices can bring into our own practices, making the CMS MA unique.
Equip yourself
This course is more than a degree – it is a chance to reflect practically on the contexts you are engaged in and learn new ways of doing mission and ministry that will equip and empower you to serve in multiple contexts.
Whether you’re currently serving in an Asian congregation, preparing for work or ministry in Asia, or seeking to better understand Britain’s diverse communities, this programme has something to offer you.
With CMS’s long legacy of global mission, its forward-thinking approach to mission and pioneering, and its vibrant and passionate community of staff and students, this MA is an excellent opportunity to equip yourself for effective, sensitive, and well-informed cross-cultural mission and ministry.
Affordable education
CMS offers formal theological education at competitively low fees.
Moreover, we are pleased to offer three bursaries to successful applicants to the Asian Christianity stream. These bursaries cover 50% of the tuition fees for the MA (2025 rate: £6,600).
Bursaries are awarded on merit and the deadline for bursary applications is Monday 30 June 2025.
A number of other bursaries and grants are also available, helping ensure that financial barriers do not hinder those who feel called to formal theological education.
