Child Theology Movement annual lecture

Location: Zoom
Date: 4pm to 5.30pm, Wednesday 26 November 2025

First annual lecture: Dr Frances Young

“A still, small voice – God’s strange almightyness”

Retired Birmingham Professor of Theology, Dr Frances Young looks back on the life of her son, Arthur, and will share stories of how she worked through the questions of faith raised by having a profoundly disabled child.

Join us to hear her reflections on the importance of the little and the vulnerable in the gospel of the upside down kingdom.

Frances Young is a retired Professor of Theology at the University of Birmingham. Her academic work has focused on early Christian theology and patristics. Frances is also the mother of Arthur, who was born with profound learning disabilities.

Her personal journey of faith as a parent has deeply informed her theological reflections, exploring questions of suffering, vulnerability, and the nature of God’s presence in the midst of disability.

Through her writings and speaking, she has helped many Christians wrestle with the profound theological questions raised by disability and the place of the vulnerable in God’s kingdom.
