Community work on the edges: God’s love in action
Hear stories of Jesus’ transforming lives around the world through community-building.
The Church Mission Society Southern Conference welcomes members, supporters and friends of CMS. It is organised by a team of CMS members from the south of England and runs from Friday 17 April to Saturday 18 April 2026 on Zoom.
Jesus spent much of his time with people at the edges, and that’s where we want to be too. Church Mission Society invites people at the edges of church, the edges of society and the edges of our comfort zones to follow Jesus and play a part in his story. Come with us to the edges and discover God at work in ways you might not have expected.

In 2012 Andy and Rose founded ReVive International. ReVive provides for the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of girls who have been traumatised by abuse, exploitation or neglect. Back in the UK, in 2021, Andy was awarded an MBE for his work with vulnerable children in Brazil. In the same year he became mission director for Church Mission Society. In August 2025 Andy stepped into the role of CEO for CMS.
Rev Sarah and Rev Simon Cawdell
Sarah and Simon Cawdell are Church of England priests who served in Hereford Diocese for 20 years before joining CMS in 2022. Based in Gulu, Northern Uganda, they work with the local Diocese on leadership and sustainability.
Sarah serves as Principal of Archbishop Janani Luwum Theological College, training clergy and lay readers. Simon leads Discipleship and Development; he oversees the “Rooted in Jesus” discipleship programme across every parish and manages a Diocesan land project.
Dan and Phillipa Munday
Dan and Phillipa first served in Nepal in 1988, they returned to Nepal in 2013 to focus on specialised education and healthcare. In 2021, after Covid, they returned again to use their professional expertise in mission settings.
Phillipa transitioned from international school support to a teacher-training role, working with rural schools to improve education for children with learning difficulties. Dan, led the SUNITA project – this UKAID-funded initiative established palliative care models across rural community hospitals and health posts.

Steve’s journey with CMS began as a short-term mission partner in Tanzania (1983–85). Following his ordination and marriage to Rebecca, the couple served as CMS mission partners in Uganda from 1992–2000.
Back in the UK, Steve spent 24 years leading diverse parishes in Mitcham and Kennington. In 2025 he became the Pastoral Director to Cricket with Sports Chaplaincy UK.
