Ecuador: violence surging
There has been an upsurge in violence as drug trafficking gangs battle with state authorities. The leader of one of the main gangs recently escaped from prison with a number of others. Several prison staff were taken hostage. This has been followed by a series of violent attacks in cities across the nation including the storming of a TV studio by armed criminals during a live broadcast. The government has announced a state of emergency.
Please pray for the country, particularly for peace, justice and stability. Pray too for the population to be able to live without fear.
Remember in prayer CMS’s people in mission in the country: Sharon Wilcox in Santo Domingo and for Beverley Cannon de Pinos and Johnny Pinos (who have travelled from Cuenca to the UK for a period of training), and for those who they serve alongside.
