Ukraine: a year of refusing to give up

Ukraine: a year of refusing to give up

A year of violence, displacement and fear. But also a year of humble, inspiring mission service.

Friday 24 February 2023 marked a year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

A year of violence.

A year of fear.

A year of displacement.

And yet also a year of humble yet inspiring mission among people at the edges through our beloved colleagues: Alison, Valery and Anya and their teams.

A year of restoring ruins. Of radical reliance on God. Of refusing to give up. Of sharing the healing love of Jesus amid incomprehensible destruction.

Jesus never gives up. Neither should we.

Please keep praying.

An unwelcome anniversary, a three day fast

Ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, our CMS colleagues and their teams in Ukraine embarked on three days of prayer and fasting: from Ash Wednesday, 22 February, to Friday 24 February, a year from the day that everything suddenly turned upside down for the people of Ukraine and for our people in mission: Alison, Valery and Anya.

Mission partner Alison Giblett has sent through the following prayer requests:

Praise God that despite all the strong invasion of Ukraine for a year, it is still standing as a country and nation. Though people are weary and struggling financially they still have strong determination and courage.

Praise God for the support that God has prompted different nations to provide…. We are very grateful for all the people across Europe who have opened up their homes to take in Ukrainians for many months. Thanks to the Lord for the houses that have been repaired and container homes that people have built. However, there’s still a tremendous amount of work to be done.

  1. Pray for the government and all in authority to operate with integrity and be led by God to make wise decisions that lead to victory, peace and restoration of the country and economy.
  2. Pray that local people will seek and find God’s supernatural peace and healing to sleep well at night and not to rely on alcohol or drugs. In particular pray people will release bitterness and revenge to the Judge of all the earth….
  3. Pray for many chaplains to reach all areas of the army, that they and volunteers seeking to bring emotional support will be led by the Spirit of God – the Wonderful Counsellor.
  4. Specifically this week, pray that all the plans of the enemy, to claim some measure of victory, will be thwarted…. We all long for a swift end to the war.

Thank you for standing with us.  Your support is vital for us at this time.
