Gap Year: Tanzania Transformation

Want a different kind of gap year? Based in Asia and the UK, try Wonder, our unique new gap year experience.

In central Tanzania, 70 miles from Dodoma, is a village called Kilimatinde.

Here, a project called Rift Valley Hope is working through education, health and community development to enrich the lives of some of the poorest people in the world.

You can make a difference by investing in this project through healthcare, teaching or other community transformation activities.

Are you looking for an opportunity to spend between four months and a year overseas serving God? Do you want to see the world but also invest in making it better? A gap year with Church Mission Society could be the answer.

You will be working alongside our long term partners so whatever time you give will be spent investing in something that will continue long after you return home.

Who is CMS looking for?

We are looking for people who are adventurous and want to be challenged in their faith. We are not promising an easy year but we can guarantee that you will not return the same. If you are connected to a local church or youth group and are prepared to learn from the people you will meet then please get in touch!

Church Mission Society is recognised by Global Connections as operating under the Code of Best Practice in Short-Term Mission 2019 and 2020

Where will I go on a gap year?

We have gap year placements in several countries. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer…

  • caring for children in a children’s care centre in Argentina
  • working with people with disabilities in Ecuador
  • children’s work with the church in Uganda
  • community development in Kenya
  • working with girls at risk in Brazil
  • teaching English in Egypt
  • youth work in Peru

How do I apply?

Our selection process begins when we receive an enquiry form from you. We will take up two references and invite you in for an interview. At the interview you will also meet with our regional managers and personnel officers responsible for the area you are interested in going to. If selected then we will ask you to sign an agreement and give us a cheque for £350 that covers a contribution to our 12-day residential induction course, health clearance, a DBS check and a debrief day when you return.

How much does a gap year cost?

The costs of spending a year overseas vary from region to region. We estimate that a year would cost between £4,000 and £8,000 which would cover flights, insurance, vaccinations, accommodation, food, other expenses and a holiday in country.
