One of our local partners is sharing the gospel and planting new churches among expats where he is living in South East Asia.
Our local partner writes that he is so grateful for the opportunities God opened up in 2019, and especially at Christmastime.
He and other believers decided to organise a special Christmas outreach event, visiting people and offering gifts such as Bibles, a book about what Jesus has done for them that they can read in their free time, some sweets for the children and invitations to a Christmas service.
There are lots of expats from one particular country living in the area where this local partner lives. Most of them have been forced to leave their home country due to difficult living conditions and have come to this country in search of work and a better life for their children. Every one of them is looking for a brighter future.
The local believers’ outreach event offered the opportunity for them to meet and chat with many of these expats who are far from home. Almost everyone they spoke to had never heard of Jesus, so our local partner and the other local believers told them about God’s love for them, and why we celebrate Christmas at all. Many were excited to hear about God and interested to know more.
In talking to these families, and hearing how happy they were to hear about God’s love for them, our local partner and others felt repentant towards God for not having shared the good news sooner.
During this outreach event, God allowed them to visit and give presents to about 20 expat families living and working in their area.
The expat families who came represented many different professions. Some worked as hairdressers, some sold clothes, some sold fruit in the market. But they all had one thing in common: they didn’t know who Jesus is.
Our local partner asks for prayer as he continues to share the gospel with these families.
