Andy Roberts and Rose Pereira da Silva - Brazil

Thousands of children in Brazil are at risk of abuse and exploitation, mainly from a close family member. We’ve worked in Brazil since 2008 to provide places of safety for these children where their lives can be restored and hope renewed for the future. In 2012, we pioneered a new service called ReVive exclusively for the girls in the city. We opened our first children’s home for girls in 2014 and our second home for babies and young children in 2020.

Over the years, ReVive’s work has grown and expanded into other areas of ministry such as community development, a mission training centre and the founding of local mission movements. In recent years, God has continued to challenge us about how we respond to vulnerable children and has led us to be pioneers once again – this time of the only fostering service in the city, as we aim to close our children’s home and lead the way to more family-based methods of care.

To participate in God’s transforming mission of restoring relationships and discovering our true identity among the children and communities of Brazil.

As founders and international directors of ReVive International, we head up ReVive’s work in Brazil in partnership with the local church.

More about Andy Roberts and Rose Pereira da Silva

Andy is from York and studied biomedical sciences at Newcastle University. Rose is from Olinda, Brazil. We met in 2004 when Andy was in Brazil as a South American Mission Society short-term volunteer. We stayed together while Andy returned to the UK to do his degree and Rose gained valuable experience working for a street boys project. Andy joined her in 2008 and we were married in York in 2009 before returning to Olinda with Church Mission Society.

In 2010 we met three sisters on the streets of Olinda who were being sexually exploited by their own mother. This led us to begin the ReVive project which became the first to work with girls in the city. Our first safe house opened in 2014 and has space for 10 girls aged 5–15.

Since then ReVive’s work as expanded as we opened our second children’s home in 2020 for babies and young children. However, even though children’s homes have a role in caring for vulnerable children, we believe that its God’s wish that the abandoned and lonely are “placed into families” (Psalm 68:5–6). We are currently working with the local government and the local churches to pioneer the city’s first ever fostering service so that, where possible, children can be placed into family care and not into institutions.

ReVive also partners with local churches to support their prevention and transformation work in local communities, runs a mission training centre and is the founding organisation of a mission network called Resplandeça.
