Working with a local church, I mostly serve in the cities and villages of Ukraine, where there are many nominal Christians. A lot of families have five or more children and are living in horrible conditions. Many parents and young people do not have any hope and do not know how to survive, and alcoholism and drug addiction among young people are rife. I want to show them that life with Christ brings hope and solutions, that there is a way out. Our church team does different activities with each age group, introducing them to Jesus and helping them get connected with a local church. As young people grow in faith, they are often keen to share the gospel with others.

  • UK: pioneer recruitment

We continue to pray for people considering studying with CMS on our Pioneer Mission Training course and for churches considering whether to participate in Pioneering Parishes. Please pray that God will give more and more people a heart for mission among those on the edges of church, society and our comfort zones. Read more

  • Ukraine: frontline chaplains

Continue to pray for local partner Valery and other people who are serving as chaplains in hospitals and at the frontline. Pray especially that chaplains have personal and spiritual strength to keep going in this vital but tiring role. Pray for favour with frontline military commanders who decide whether to permit chaplains to visit troops.… Read more

Anya’s story

I grew up in Crimea, where my father was pastor of our village church. Even as a child I was passionate about evangelism, performing Christian songs in front of my whole school to try to tell them that they need Jesus. Since then, God has been preparing me to reach out to people of all ages.

After completing a master’s degree in philology in Crimea, I studied organisational leadership in Michigan for a year, not knowing at the time how that would help me fulfil my calling.

I returned to Crimea and worked as director of a boarding school for orphan girls for almost two years. When Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, I felt God speak to me, telling me to go to Kiev, where I joined another CMS local partner, Valery Alymov, in his work of church planting and outreach. Since then, I have been helping Valery as his assistant. I help put together outreach teams, negotiate with local hosts and plan teams’ itineraries.

I respect CMS because they work with all denominations and support me in fulfilling my calling.
