Joe and Sarah Harvey - Egypt

Our deep passion and call is to share the love of Christ and the hope of the gospel with everyone we meet. We also want to support indigenous Christians in the Middle East, where communities are in decline, as well as work with the local Arab church, supporting it however we can.

We will be moving with our two small children to Egypt - to a town in the Nile Delta. Most of the local population are involved in low paid agricultural work, and there is a minority Christian presence in the town.

Joe will be working as a teacher at the local Episcopal school where 80 per cent of the students are Muslim. The school has a positive reputation and exists both to educate and to build relationships between Christians and Muslims within the local community. Using his background in education, Joe will also be helping to train teachers in how to deliver a more inclusive curriculum. He hopes to bring something new to the school and have a positive impact on teaching and learning. Sarah wants to initially focus on our family, while also hoping to meet with local women and develop friendships with them.

We met while studying at Oxford Brookes University and we then settled in Portsmouth where Sarah worked as a paediatric nurse and Joe trained to be a primary school teacher. We then followed God’s call to Amman in Jordan where Joe worked at an international school and Sarah worked serving the refugee community through a church-run clinic and for the past year as an administrative assistant for the international church we attend. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Amman and it has confirmed our calling and natural passion to see the gospel spread in this part of the world.
