Mario Agreda - Argentina

We are charged with comforting, re-directing and re-activating an old church which was coming out of a serious crisis and lack of leadership situation. We were also given the opportunity of taking on chaplaincy work at two old-established schools, with the aim of bringing to bear a Christian focus to education, which is one of my specialities.

I undertake the typical tasks of pastoral care, Christian education and growth in discipleship in the local church, and some diocesan roles. We are also developing a programme of Christian values at both St Alban’s and St George’s schools. We also support the San Lucas Mission church in Arias, Cordoba, some 500km away from Lomas.

To reconnect our post-modern world with the Lord

Rector of the Santa Trinidad (Holy Trinity) Anglican Church and chaplain of two schools. Member of the Regional Ecumenical Council.

More about Mario Agreda

I was born in Buenos Aires, brought up in a Roman Catholic family, and educated at a Catholic school.

I was always interested in religion, had doubts and questions about life and enjoyed some interesting conversations with friends and teachers. But I never came across a place where I could develop these interests to satisfy the principles I thought were most important, such as dialogue, thought and freedom of expression. In my spiritual search I found an Anglican church in my neighbourhood. This was Villa Devoto, which i visited and from that time on became my spiritual home.

Some years later I met my wife, Paula, who was a Christian like me and now we have three beautiful children, Manuel, Maite and Fermin.

I studied sociology as a profession at the University of Buenos Aires, where I also became a staff member, as well as working in other colleges. Under the guidance of my local church I also studied theology and became a lay minister and after several years was ordained deacon and then presbyter.

Church Mission Society has been an important support as I have developed my ministry, thanks to the help I received over the first years when funding was scarce. I am very much aware of the call to mission to contemporary culture, and CMS provides me with spiritual and material help to cooperate in this work at the difficult financial context in which we live.
