In Northern Uganda, due to the combination of poverty, poor education levels and poorly-resourced healthcare systems, death and disability continue to plague the local community from diseases that are ultimately preventable, while many struggle to take hold of the reality of God’s grace on their lives here and now.

Tom is based in the health department of Madi and West Nile Diocese, supporting rural health centres in their work with the local population by providing education for staff and working with them to improve the quality of care, while directing patients towards the God who heals them. Verity is home schooling our two older boys while also caring for the younger two as she looks to engage the local community in the reality of living in Christ’s freedom

Tom and Verity’s story

We both grew up in Christian families in the UK. Having had the opportunity to serve on various short-term mission trips, we were each exploring a call to longer term mission when we first met in 2009. At that time, Verity had recently completed a TEFL course and was teaching English to refugees in Nottingham while studying for a masters in peace and reconciliation studies. Tom was in his first year of studying graduate medicine. Since marrying in 2011, God has been helping us grow in reaching out to our local community in the UK. Tom’s main focus during this time has been his training to become a GP and since 2013 Verity has been a stay-at-home mum to our four children – Ezra, Eli, Simeon and Joel. Following Tom’s qualification as a GP in 2017, we felt the time was right to follow God’s call overseas.

We recognise our need to draw on the collective wisdom and experience of others as we take this step of faith in moving to Uganda with our young family and feel honoured to be joining the CMS family.
