In the lead-up to Christmas, we’re inviting you to think of ways you can invite everyone to the feast!
Because in Jesus’ kingdom, there’s always an #extraplace at the table.
“When you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind; and you will be blessed, because they are not able to pay you back. God will repay you on the day the good people rise from death.”Luke 14:13–14, Good News Translation
We’re inviting you to print off this placemat template to help you, your family, your home group, your youth group, your whole church family, consider meaningful ways to make sure people don’t feel like “left overs” this Christmas.
It’s both a reflective activity and a reminder for you over the festive season. The idea is simple – just fill in the blanks to say how you will pray, give and get active to include the excluded this Christmas.
- Do this by yourself and stick it on the fridge
- Give every member of the family a placemat one mealtime and think together during the meal about how you respond
- Use it at a midweek group meeting
- Talk with your minister about giving every member of the congregation a copy one Sunday!
STEP 1: Using the stories at churchmissionsociety.org/christmas, or something God has placed on your heart, write onto the plate how you have chosen to pray, give and participate in mission over this Christmas season.
STEP 2: Keep the placemat somewhere prominent and use it as a reminder of your commitment to serve left out people this Christmas. Or go the extra mile and get your placemat laminated and use it throughout Advent.
STEP 3: We would love to know how you will include the excluded and how we can pray for you.
Please take a photo of your placemat and share it on social media – don’t forget to tag us (Facebook: @churchmissionsociety, Twitter: @cmsmission, Instagram: churchmissionsociety) and include the hashtag #extraplace. We’ll include you in our staff prayers and give you a mention in our Prayerspace email too.
STEP 4: If you have used this resource, please consider making a donation to Church Mission Society this Christmas and ensure that we can keep inviting everyone to the feast. Donate now
