Kate and Tim Lee Link Letter no.19 December 2019

Dear friends,

Greetings in Jesus’ name and a very Happy Christmas from all of the Lee family. As I write this, the sun is rising over Kuala Lumpur and a wonderful song is moving through my heart,

Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory,

Blaze, spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire,

Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy,

send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.

This was a favourite song of Tim’s mum and the words are our prayer this Christmas time for the Philippines, the UK and for the countries we are now connected with through Asia-CMS:

Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.

We thank each of you and all the churches who partner with and support us as a family in our mission with Jigsaw and Asia-CMS helping to bring God’s love and light to the nations. Your support and care for us as a family through prayer, gifts and love enables and empowers all that God is doing in the mission we are involved in together and has kept us going through some really challenging times as we have moved back to Asia. Thank you so much.

The light of Jesus shines in the darkness this Christmas. Praise God.

Mission updates: Jigsaw

The wonderful ministry of Jigsaw continues to develop and grow, with Tim’s work now focused on sustainability and the development of management, leadership and governance through training, programme and administration development and seeking partnerships for funding and resourcing. There are too many highlights to mention, but one that really stands out is the development of Jigsaw community ministry teams, each now based in one particular community. This is empowering even stronger relationships and a stronger response to child, youth and family development. Praise God.

Nutrition is vital for all ages.

Please pray for the development of sustainability in Jigsaw and especially for the Board of Trustees as they start to take over the governance of Jigsaw.

In October Tim went with the Asia-CMS team and Paul Thaxter, CMS director of international mission, to Penang for a 6-day planning retreat for 2020. Asia-CMS is focused on sharing the love and good news of Jesus with unreached people groups and those living on the margins in over nine countries in South Asia and the Mekong region of East Asia through local Asian mission partners. It is truly mind-blowing and inspiring what God is doing through Asia-CMS and Tim feels privileged and humbled to be a small part of it. His role is to support and help develop aspects of the Asia-CMS co-mission partner programme. His focus in 2020 is on developing mission partner security and safeguarding across the organisation, both in KL with the central team and in the two Asia-CMS mission hubs. He feels slightly daunted, but knows that God will equip him and empower him for the work.

Please pray for protection for all Asia-CMS co-mission partners, many of whom work in dangerous places. Please pray also for Tim as he takes on this new work with Asia-CMS.

Lee family updates:

The first months of our move to KL have been both challenging and wonderful as God is working powerfully through what Tim is doing in Jigsaw and Asia-CMS and through the rest of the family too.

The Lee family on rickshaws: (l to r) Grace, James, Tim and Kate.

Kate: I am really enjoying my new teaching role. The team I work with are fun and very supportive. A recent highlight was going to Bangkok to train as a level 3 Forest School Leader which was a great experience.

James: We are so blown away by what God is doing through James. When he spent two years at Stevenage FC, we had no idea what God had planned ahead. Now “Coach James” is LOVING coaching 50/60 refugee children in football each week at Dignity for Children Foundation in KL. James is also playing futsal twice a week and is part of our new church’s youth and college group. God’s plans are amazing.

Grace is beginning to love living in KL, although she is still finding some aspects of the move very challenging, especially in making friends and finding a school she fits into. She says her favourite things are the hot weather, visiting new places, roti cani for breakfast and definitely being able to swim every day. Her faith in God is huge despite the challenges and her fun and care keeps us all going.

Rebekah has started her first year at the University of East Anglia. She has settled into student life quickly and is really enjoying the course that she is studying, International Development and Environmental Science. She has joined the sailing club and Christian Union and has found a great church to go to. We are looking forward to having her join us in KL for Christmas.

Family prayers:

• For the family to establish a network of friends and begin to be part of a community.

• For Grace, that she will find some good friends and a school where she can be happy and flourish.

• For Rebekah, that her faith will remain strong and that she will continue to enjoy her course.

• For James, for safety as he travels to his football coaching and that God will use him mightily to share his love with the refugee children and young people.

• For Tim, for wisdom, strength and energy in his work with Jigsaw Philippines and UK and Asia-CMS.

Thanks everyone and God’s Christmas blessings with you all.

Tim, Kate, James, Rebekah and Grace
