Prayer News 05 March 2021

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.

Matthew 21:21 (NIV)

South Sudan: Maridi wildfires

People in five different villages in Maridi are struggling to recover following wildfires towards the end of February. Due to a lack of a functioning fire brigade in the area, the wildfires raged for three days, causing severe property destruction. Pray for comfort, healing and new beginnings for those who have lost their homes.

Uganda: senior nurse at Potter’s Village

Mission partner Nicci Maxwell asks for prayer for Jovia, the senior nurse at Potter’s Village, and her family. Jovia’s youngest son, Dan, is 13 years old and due to take the very important primary school leaving exams at the end of March. Last week, he was diagnosed with a potentially very worrying mass on his kidney. Jovia is beside herself with worry about Dan’s health and his future. Please pray for Jovia, Dan and the whole family – for the right specialists, appropriate investigations and the finances to afford it all. (Specialised scans and tests are not free, even in the government hospital.) Please pray that whatever the diagnosis, it can be dealt with and Dan will be restored to full health in time for the exams.

South Asia: visa

Please continue to pray for mission partner F’s new visa to come through (which she applied for in October). Pray for her visa to be issued quickly and that she will be able to begin planning for her home leave later this year.

Latin America

Answered prayers

Praise God for answered prayers. In Brazil, Maria Clara, the 10-year-old ReVive girl who was very ill and in hospital last week has seen great improvements over the last few days, described by mission partners Andy and Rose Roberts as a “mini-miracle”. In Paraguay, Chris Hawksbee is much improved in his recovery from COVID-19 and is now back at home. Alison appears to be improving too although she is still in hospital. Please do continue to pray for her complete healing soon.

Brazil: Live Justly

Evaldo and Rebecca Reid Rodrigues write that Evaldo is creating a course in partnership with Tearfund Brasil called Live Justly, offering biblical teaching on justice. There are 177 participants signed up for the course from over 15 Brazilian states and one group from Portugal. The course will begin on 10 March and run for ten weeks, consisting of small groups that meet weekly, as well as four big group sessions. Praise God for this opportunity for Evaldo to teach about something he’s very passionate about. Pray for him as he leads one of the small groups, and for God to use this teaching powerfully in each participant’s life.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Lebanon: breaking point

Pray for the people of Lebanon, where there are many street protests and riots, and a lack of medicine and food. The country is nearing breaking point as a surge in cases of COVID-19 overwhelms the healthcare system, they continue to struggle with the aftermath of last year’s blast, and a financial crash has pushed more than half the population below the poverty line. Pray for God to break through and meet with people stuck in impossible situations. Pray for our people in mission – Emil and Reem Bourizk, Audrey and Colin Gibson and Phil and Sylvie Good – to be empowered to help without wearing themselves out or becoming overwhelmed.

Israel: hoping to start work

Pray for mission partners Jennifer and Kevin Cable, currently in the UK, to be able to travel to Israel in April. Pray for God to open doors for them so they can start serving the expatriate community in the Tel Aviv area and moving towards reopening the historic Anglican Church in Jaffa.
