Prayer News 06 December 2019

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Psalm 127:1 (NIV)

Latin America

Bolivia: prayer for the nation

This week’s focus country is Bolivia, one of the poorest countries in South America, with over a third of the population living in poverty. Pray for God to bring about a strengthened economy that will put an end to widespread poverty, and for believers to be strengthened to stand against false doctrine and immorality. Please pray, too, for our people in mission in Bolivia; mission partners Andrew and Lisa Peart, and local partners Franklin Cuenca and Walter Toro.

Argentina: mission trip to Ushuaia

Marking the 150th anniversary of the first mission in Argentina and first bishop in South America (Waite Stirling), a group from five countries is travelling this week to the southernmost city in the world, and across to Chile by boat. Pray for this group which comprises CMS director of international mission Paul Thaxter, CMS mission development manager for Latin America Paul Tester, mission partners Alf and Hilary Cooper and Nick Drayson and Catherine Le Tissier, local partner Mario Agreda and four others.

Pray for safety and inspiration for the emerging mission community in Latin America 150 years on from the first mission in Argentina.

Asia

Malaysia: new Jigsaw director

Mission partners Kate and Tim Lee ask for prayer for Pastor Jolly as he takes on the role of director of Jigsaw, for peace, wisdom and God’s guidance. Please also pray for Jigsaw’s board of trustees as they meet in December to plan for 2020, for God to guide and inspire their thoughts, ideas and planning.

Please pray for Tim’s work with Asia-CMS as he seeks to write a safeguarding strategy for Asia-CMS which covers work in more than 10 countries, that he may be able to link with people who will be able to help him and for God to guide and empower him.

South Asia: new accommodation

Please pray for mission partners B and K to find a new place to live as their current accommodation is being eaten by termites. Do pray for them as a family to establish a routine that fits in with a four-month old baby.

South East Asia: stamina during busy Christmas period

Pray for mission partners in South East Asia; for energy and stamina during this time of Christmas preparations with different events taking place, and for people to help with the practicalities. Pray for a fundraising event that one of the mission partners’ children is organising and for all the children to do well in their exams.

Africa

Uganda: returning to work

Please pray for mission partner Helen Kisakye (nee Burningham) as she returns to work following maternity leave. Pray for energy, grace and for her to be patient with herself as she adjusts to working as well as being mum to baby Melina. Praise God that the inclusive dance company SPLASH (which Helen founded) has continued to grow despite her absence.

Kenya: training of trainers

Pray for key women trainers in Kenya as they gather in the CMS-Africa training room for a day to review and understand the women’s training manual on 16 December. Please pray for Meshack Oduke and Stephen Mosheni who will be facilitating on the day.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Britain: election

Britain’s general election is due to take place on 12 December. As tensions are running high, pray for peace in the lead-up to the election as well as on the day. Pray for voters to consider their choice before casting their vote, and for God to build his government. Pray for God to prepare the next prime minister.
