Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 (NIV)
New life and new hope across the region
Pray for all of those across Latin America currently suffering, particularly those unwell with COVID-19 and for those who have lost loved ones. Pray that the coming year will see an end to the pandemic and a move towards a hope-filled future in Christ. Pray for CMS people in mission across Latin America to continue to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around them and that many might be transformed by receiving Christ into their lives.
Vaccines have begun to arrive in some countries in the region (Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica) whilst other countries have vaccines on order and others are still struggling to source them. Pray for the many countries across the region struggling to access vaccines as wealthier countries go to the front of the queue. Pray that the vaccine will soon be available to all in the region, particularly the poor and marginalised.
Bolivia and Peru: flooding
Pray for the people of these countries as they deal with the effects of widespread flooding. Pray for help to reach those who need it and for comfort for those who have lost loved ones, possessions or even their livelihood.
South Sudan: training for ordinands
Bishop Moses in Maridi asks for prayer for two months of training starting next week for 18 deacons and 7 priests who are due to be ordained on Sunday 7 March. Pray for wisdom for those running the training as they make decisions about how to conduct the training sessions during the pandemic.
Central African Republic: widespread violence
Rebel groups started fighting again ahead of presidential elections at the end of December. Villages have been destroyed and people were forced to flee, and fighting has continued in towns throughout the country since the election. Please pray urgently for an end to the violence in CAR.
Europe, Middle East and North Africa
Lebanon: making decisions
Audrey and Colin Gibson write that their church has been sending out weekly services by email instead of meeting together. They now ask for prayer as the parochial church council (PCC) meets this month to discuss how to continue as church over the coming months. Pray for wisdom for the council as they make decisions about this and also as they set the church budget for 2021 amid very high inflation.
Nepal: first palliative care unit
Give thanks for the opening of International Nepal Fellowship’s palliative care building, the first dedicated palliative care unit in the country. CMS mission associate Dan Munday has been pivotal in helping to establish this and the promotion of palliative care in Nepal.
