Prayer news 10 April 2020

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

Regional manager for Africa Steve Burgess asks for prayer for protection for people in Africa. While there is little incidence of COVID-19 and few deaths, if outbreaks increase it will have huge consequences in a continent with few resources to treat and care for people.

Rwanda: Remembrance Day

Rwanda marked Remembrance Day on 7 April, the date the 1994 genocide began. Pray for peace in this nation, that God will lead people to forgive and that nothing like the genocide will ever happen again.

South Africa: townships

Caroline and Dick Seed ask for prayer for people in the townships in South Africa where COVID-19 is spreading. Please also pray for priorities in work at this time when so many colleges need support in online teaching.

Latin America

Ecuador: returned to the UK

Praise God that short-termers Andy and Jessica Lynch, who have been serving with Artizan International in Ecuador, managed to return to the UK recently. They write, “Little did we know that God’s angels were working in the background to make this transition as easy as possible.”

Nepal: continuing healthcare

United Mission to Nepal is struggling to continue running two hospitals as the usual income from outpatients has dropped due to the coronavirus outbreak. Pray that they will be able to run the hospitals despite this drop in income and also be prepared to deal with any patients infected by the virus.

Nepal: ongoing pastoral care

Pray that Andrea and Andrew Young will be able to continue their pastoral care work from the UK and be able to stay in touch with people in Nepal.

South Asia: coronavirus impact

Give thanks that a specific hospital in South Asia has got their ICU up and running with additional beds even though income has dropped here as well for the same reason as in Nepal. Give thanks for the generous donations that have come in due to the coronavirus outbreak. Pray for H and his team during this stressful time.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

UK: ongoing coronavirus crisis

Pray for Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he continues to battle coronavirus. Pray for his healing and for him to return to his post better equipped to deal with the crisis. Pray for wisdom and clear guidance from God for the government as they make difficult decisions. Lift up our hardworking NHS staff, carers and others in essential roles, along with the many people losing their livelihoods at this time.

Jordan: safe pregnancy

Pray for Fiona and Joel Kelling, for peace and good health throughout Fiona’s pregnancy and for a safe birth. Pray for wisdom on when to return to the UK.

Lebanon: hidden and vulnerable

Audrey and Colin Gibson ask for prayer for the hidden vulnerable people in Lebanon: migrant domestic workers, refugees, those who are sick and those who are unemployed. Pray for God’s mercy, healing and provision.
