Pause with Scripture
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Brazil, Honduras: completion of training
Praise God for the successful completion of training for another cohort of mission partners including Andy and Kati Walsh and Lindsey and Steve Poulson who will be heading to Brazil and Honduras respectively in January. Pray for their preparations for their transition to Latin America.
Remember in prayer mission associate Janet Mena, undergoing surgery on Friday 10 December in Santiago. Pray for a speedy and full recovery for her. Her own request for prayer is for the right result in the coming second round of Chile’s presidential elections on 19 December.
Haiti: ongoing hostage situation
After many prayers for the release of the Christian Aid Ministries missionaries taken hostage in Haiti, three more have been released. Negotiations continue for the release of the remaining hostages. Pray for the released hostages as they begin to recover from their ordeal, and for those still being held; for God’s peace in their impossible situation and for them to be released too.
Sudan: huge need for humanitarian aid
The UN has warned that 30 per cent of the population (14.3 million of 47.9 million) will require humanitarian aid next year, because of the continuing economic crisis, COVID-19, floods, disease and the large refugee and IDP population. More than half are women and children. This figure includes 1.2 million refugees, 68 per cent of whom are from South Sudan. Pray for all those unable to support themselves, and for the agencies who work to feed and sustain them.
South Sudan: mystery illness
In Fangak, the northernmost county of Jonglei State, 90 people have died of a strange illness involving chest pains, diarrhoea and vomiting. It is suspected to be a waterborne disease linked to an oil spill in the next-door county of Ayod. Pray for the water to become safe to drink again, and for those who are grieving for dead and missing family members.
Kenya: a message of hope during a difficult time
Local partner Rachel Karanja writes that they are experiencing unrest in secondary schools around the country. Pray for churches to have a message of hope for families and young people during this difficult time.
Europe, Middle East and North Africa
Algeria: freedom of religion
Algerian Christians request prayer for Foudhil Bahloul as he appeals a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine for his involvement in non-Muslim religious activities. Pray for Foudhil to know the peace of Jesus and his encouragement, for adequate legal representation and for justice to be done, and for the campaign to harass Christians and against the Church in the country to come to an end. This prayer request comes from Middle East Concern.
Nepal: partner organisation
One of our partner organisations asks for prayer for a commitment to the organisation’s vision at all levels, so every member of the team can work together towards their shared goal. Pray for God to bring in the right people at the right time to fill positions in the board, leadership, and management.
Philippines: settling in the UK
Pray for mission partner Tim Lee and his family as they continue to settle into life back in the UK.
