I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.Isaiah 61:10 (NIV)
Please pray for more equitable sharing of COVID-19 vaccines throughout the world. Poorer countries struggle to receive the vaccines they need, and misinformation about the vaccines is causing confusion and inhibiting rollout in many locations. Pray against misinformation and for fair distribution of vaccines.
Prayer and Aware event
Please pray for the Asia Prayer and Aware meeting being held on Zoom on Saturday 19 June at 3pm UK time (7pm India). Pastor Tracey Jawanda from Birmingham will be speaking on the theme of mothers as disciple makers. For more information please click here, and contact Jane Fulford to register: email@example.com.
Nepal: Tansen Hospital
Mission partners Jason and Tracy Day, who have worked at the hospital in the past, ask for prayer for Tansen Hospital as they cope with COVID-19 and its after-effects. The hospital’s capacity is limited to 20 oxygen-dependent patients. Case numbers in the country have dropped considerably since hitting their peak on 13 May, but are still very high. Pray for case numbers to come down and for strength and stamina for healthcare workers at Tansen Hospital and elsewhere.
Peru: election results
Please continue to pray for Peru, where Sunday’s election has produced a knife-edge result, with the two candidates separated by less than half a percentage point of the overall vote. Final official results are not yet in, but with 99 per cent of the vote counted, left-wing candidate Pedro Castillo has a small lead. Trailing right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori is claiming fraud, and legal challenges are being presented by her team in an effort to annul votes in areas where Castillo has strong support. Pray for a just outcome and for peace in the country.
Chile: new bishop
Pray for the ongoing process to elect a new bishop for the Diocese of Araucania in Chile. Former CMS local partner and first Mapuche bishop Abelino Apeleo will be retiring at the end of the year. Praise God that there are a number of candidates to replace him and pray for the right person to be chosen.
South Sudan: food insecurity
The most recent figures from UN agency the Food and Agriculture Organisation indicate that 55 per cent of the population, or 6.5 million people, face “severe acute food insecurity”. The main cause is continuing conflict, which prevents cultivation, alongside flooding and poor harvests. Pray for all who cannot feed their families, and for agencies both international and local who are trying to get food to those affected, but are often hampered by bad roads and other obstacles.
South Sudan: first female evangelist
The first female evangelist in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan has been appointed in Wanyjok Diocese, for Aweil East County: Rebecca Abuk, 22 years old, was commissioned to work particularly with women and girls in the area. Pray for Rebecca – for protection as she travels and for a fruitful ministry.
Uganda: student applications and appointments
Mission partner Malcolm Pritchard writes from Archbishop Janani Luwum Theological College and asks for prayer for more student applications, as the pandemic has impeded recruitment. Please also pray for the appointment of a bishop to the Diocese of Northern Uganda and a principal to the college.
Europe, Middle East and North Africa
Britain: recruitment for pioneer training
There will be open day events for CMS’s Pioneer Mission Leadership Training on 21 June (all Oxford-based training) and 28 June (new MA route focused on African Christian diaspora). Pray for the team running these events and preparing the new MA route, and pray for those God is calling to be able to attend.
