Pause with Scripture
Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.John 6:68 (NIV)
Please continue to pray for the peace and wellbeing of Ethiopia and all its people in the current armed and political conflict. Our mission partners Chris and Suzy Wilson, seconded to SIM, are travelling to Nairobi for a retreat with other SIM workers.
Sudan: ongoing tensions
In the aftermath of the recent military coup, the country is still unstable, with widespread demonstrations being met with harsh response. Pray for Sudan – for protesters injured or arrested, and for Christians (especially Archbishop Ezekiel) who fear a return to the harsh persecution of the Al-Bashir regime.
South Africa: open doors for theological training
Mission partners Caroline and Dick Seed work training trainers in theological education in Africa (and beyond), based at George Whitefield College (GWC) in Cape Town. After being concerned that COVID would close the doors for training, they comment: “We thank the Lord that he has turned the situation around.” Give thanks for a new postgraduate diploma to be run from the college, for new equipment and a new team member, and for participation online in various courses. Pray for the faculty at St John’s University Tanzania, who have now completed their current course. Pray too for an institution in Chile and for GWC as they complete the next phases of their training in December and January respectively.
South Asia: Children’s education and ongoing disruption
Mission partners in South Asia ask for ongoing prayer for schools and education in their country, as schools begin to reopen but with some confusion about attendance. Pray for teachers and parents navigating this time, and for children to have opportunities to learn.
Give thanks for answered prayer in the form of their son having the chance to spend time playing with other boys locally.
Please continue to pray for a mission partner family who returned from South East Asia this summer as they make plans for their next steps and adjust to life in the UK. Please pray particularly for the right doors to open.
Europe, Middle East and North Africa
A local partner working in Spain and North Africa will be involved in seminars to support North African Christians and international mission workers – please pray for a fruitful time together. Pray also for Bible studies with people who are reading Scripture for the first time and asking questions – pray for the leaders and the participants as they engage.
Local partners Valery Alymov and Anya Manchuliak serve at Tabernacle of the Living God church in Kiev, Ukraine. They report that in recent months they have seen new people attending the church, have renewed ministry visits outside of Kiev and have run a youth camp for the first time. Give thanks for these developments, and pray for the church in this season. Please pray particularly for leaders for new home groups, for larger premises and for their work with young people in the church.
Bolivia: political turmoil
Andrew and Lisa Peart ask for prayer for Bolivia which, once again, is facing protests and strikes, in response to a controversial new proposed law targeting “illicit profits” which critics say is an attempt by the government to seize private property. Tensions in the country run high following ongoing political and social turmoil over many years. Pray for peace, good government and for the right decisions to be made.
Chile: presidential elections
Pray for Chile with presidential elections fast approaching on 21 November. Outgoing President Sebastian Pinera has been impeached by the congress this week following revelations in the Pandora papers and, although unlikely to be impeached by the senate, this will undoubtedly impact on voters. Pray for the best candidate for the country to be elected.
