Middle East: community testing of Ruth and Jonah
Mission partners in the Middle East are working on the translation of the Old Testament into a local language. They ask for prayer as they start the process of community testing the translation of Ruth and Jonah, that they will find good ways to improve the translation. They praise God that COVID numbers have dropped a lot locally so that community testing is actually feasible.
Lebanon: full lockdown
Mission partners Phil and Sylvie Good write that the number of COVID cases has risen dramatically and the hospitals are full, even having to turn patients away. The government has imposed a 24-hour curfew for 11 days to try to curb the spread of the virus. Pray for overwhelmed healthcare workers; for strength to keep going in the face of extreme circumstances. Pray for the many families who are unprepared for a total lockdown and may be facing a very difficult 11 days. Pray for these desperate circumstances to cause people to turn to Jesus.
Sudan: refugees from Ethiopia
Ongoing fighting in Tigray, Ethiopia is causing hundreds to cross the border into Sudan every night, and the International Rescue Committee reports that over 60,000 people have now been received. 1,200 of these refugees are pregnant women and 130 live births are expected in the camps shortly. Pray for food, water, sanitation and medical care for these refugees, and for a resolution to the conflict in Tigray.
Uganda: teaching at Kajo-Keji Christian College
Pray for mission associate John Rutter who is starting to lecture online for Kajo-Keji Christian College (a South Sudanese college which had to relocate to Uganda from good facilities in Kajo-Keji, South Sudan, during the civil war) this coming week. Pray for John as he prepares material and for the technology to work. Pray also for mission partners Neil and Sue Browning as they continue to settle in at their new home in northern Uganda. Pray for Sue as she teaches at Kajo-Keji Christian College and for Neil, a surgeon at Moyo General Hospital.
Brazil: new mutation of coronavirus
Brazil’s COVID levels have remained generally high during much of the pandemic and it has been discovered recently that a new strain is circulating in the country, which may make the virus more contagious. Even so, many continue to ignore guidelines or restrictions. Pray for the people of Brazil, for them to find hope in Jesus during this dark time.
Argentina: rising COVID numbers
Pray for mission partners David and Shelley Stokes and all those in Juarez. After many months of no COVID-19 cases in the area, numbers are now rising. Pray also for local partners in northern Argentina, bishops Crisanto Rojas and Mateo Alto. Pray for the many countries across the region that are seeing concerning increases in COVID-19.
Thailand: the need to hear the gospel
Mission partners Jason and Tracy Day write, “Please continue to pray for Thailand to hear the gospel! For sure, COVID and recent political tensions and struggles are serious issues and need prayer, but these will never outweigh the seriousness of sin, and where each of us and all mankind will spend eternity.”
