Prayer News 16 July 2021

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Matthew 6:7–8 (NIV)

Bangladesh: poverty to the point of starvation

Please pray for the people of Bangladesh. Like many others around the world, most Bangladeshis rely on daily wages in order to eat. Rising COVID-19 case numbers mean more people are unable to work to earn their daily bread, pushing many toward the brink of starvation. Pray for government guidance and intervention and for other organisations as they try to help the worst affected.

Nepal: agreement with strategic partners

Give thanks that an agreement has now been signed with one of our strategic partners, which is a major breakthrough. Continue to pray that visas related to the projects will also come through. Pray for wisdom and discernment for people in mission who are planning to return to Nepal over the next few months.

Philippines: opening up to talk about creation care

Pray for mission partners Eric and Sandra Read as they open their farm to the public, selling lunch and talking about creation care. Having just started when lockdown was imposed last year, they are finally able to restart. Pray that this initiative will be a real success.

Latin America

COVID-19 throughout the region

Praise God that numbers of COVID-19 cases are reducing across much of Latin America and vaccines are becoming more widely available. However, please do pray for the millions who have been plunged into poverty as a direct result of the pandemic and particularly for the hugely increased numbers of people who are now experiencing hunger and food insecurity.

Brazil: preparing to leave

Pray for mission partners Andy and Rose Roberts. As Andy Roberts prepares to take up his new role as CMS’s director of international mission, please pray for his wife Rose’s visa to come through so they can soon travel and start settling into life in the UK.

Paraguay: vaccinations

Mission partner Bev Richardson reports that all staff members at St Andrew’s School in Asuncion recently received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as part of the government’s prioritisation of school staff for vaccinations. Praise God for this protection for staff, and pray for more vaccines to become available across Paraguay and Latin America.

Peru: returning

Please pray for mission partner Pat Blanchard returning to Peru today, for travelling mercies and particularly for her to have all the documentation required. Please also pray for Peru, where the presidential election was over a month ago, but the result has yet to be announced. Pray for the result to be forthcoming soon, and for peace and stability in the transition to a new president following claims of fraud in the election.

Burundi: new archbishop and primate

The Province of the Anglican Church of Burundi is preparing to install the new archbishop and primate of Burundi, the Rt Rev Sixbert Macumi, on 21 August 2021. Praise God for the work of the outgoing archbishop, the Most Rev Martin Blaise Nyaboho, and commit the new leadership into the hands of God so that the Church may continue to carry out its mission.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Lebanon: a nation in crisis

Please continue to pray for Lebanon, which is struggling with a devaluation of currency, a gas shortage, unemployment, lack of medicine, electrical shutdown and more. Pray for God’s peace and mercy to be made known in the hearts of the Lebanese as well as protection for all.

UK: health problems

Please pray for mission partner Michael Green’s health. Pray for more strength and mobility and for an end to persistent health problems that keep him from working.

Israel/Palestine: mission partners in Jaffa and Bethlehem

Pray for Jennifer and Kevin Cable as they settle down in Jaffa and start leading St Peter’s Church there. Pray for them as they make new connections and attend language training.

Pray for mission partner Anne Plested as she starts the process of applying for a visa so she can return to her work at Bethlehem Bible College. Pray also for patience for her in the waiting.
