Prayer news 19 November 2021

Pause with Scripture

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

Uganda: aftermath of bombings

Earlier this week, suicide bombers targeted Kampala, killing at least three people and injuring more than 30 others. CMS-Africa ask for prayer for the peace of God to prevail, for the security agencies to be able to discharge their mandates of providing security to the country, and for all the affected families and individuals to be comforted by the Holy Spirit.

DR Congo: killings near peace centre

Local partner Bisoke Balikenga has reported that recently, several people were killed very close to the peace centre, highlighting the need for the work of peacemaking in the country. Please pray for comfort for all those affected by these killings, and for peace to come to this nation.

South Sudan: floods

New floods in Tonj North County, Warrap State, have destroyed houses and crops and displaced up to 46,000 people. The World Food Programme reports that it needs $568 million to provide emergency food aid and maintain operations for six months – not only food provision but building dykes, repairing roads, and whatever enables the assistance to be delivered. Pray for all who have lost homes, crops, livestock and livelihoods – and for all those struggling to bring them relief.

South Asia: COVID-19

Please pray for B, brother-in-law of a local partner, who is currently in ICU with COVID-19. He has been improving but do pray for continued healing. His wife and their son have also tested positive but only have mild symptoms. Pray for them as a family and for B to get the medical care he needs.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Ukraine: prayer for trainers

Mission partner Alison Giblett writes that the Genesis trainers need covering in prayer as they release people from bondage and help them overcome addiction. She writes that they have been under attack spiritually, emotionally and physically. Please pray for God’s protection on their lives and for God to continue to use them to help set people free.

Jordan: settling back into Amman

Please pray for mission partners Fiona and Joel Kelling, who have returned to Jordan. They write that in addition to all the life admin that goes with getting set up again, their children’s sleep schedule isn’t back on track yet, which is leaving them all feeling quite drained. Pray for a good sleep schedule to be established soon and for them to settle back into life in Amman quickly.

Latin America

Chile and Honduras: elections

Alf and Hilary Cooper are calling for prayer for upcoming Chilean presidential elections on 21 November. Lindsey and Steve Poulson ask for prayer for presidential and congressional elections coming up in Honduras on 28 November. May the right candidates be chosen by the voters and may they work for the best of the whole country.

Ecuador: gang violence

Inside Ecuador’s prisons, gangs are battling for control of the lucrative drug smuggling routes out of South America and into the North. This week another 68 inmates were killed in a gang fight in the same prison where 119 people were killed in September. Pray for an end to the gang violence.
