Prayer news 20 December 2019

Verse: Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV)

Latin America

Uruguay: prayer for the nation

Please pray for this nation of 3.5 million on the east coast of South America. Uruguay has one of the highest standards of living in Latin America, a very literate population and a relatively stable economy. Despite these outward signs of success, the country has some of Latin America’s highest rates of suicide, depression, abortion and divorce. Uruguay is one of the most secular nations in Latin America, with as many as 17 per cent defining themselves as atheist or agnostic; pray for people to be open to the gospel. Please also pray for our local partner in Uruguay, Mechi Tarragona.

Africa

South Sudan: ordained deacon

Give thanks that mission partner Lynn Treneary was ordained deacon in Maridi Diocese on 17 December.

South Sudan: Paul and Regina Lueth

Pray for a youth conference on 19–22 December. Pray for Paul and Regina as they teach to encourage the young people attending the conference. Please pray for a bright future in Christ for these young people.

Asia

Thailand: prayer for the nation

Thailand means “land of the free”, but many of Thailand’s 69 million residents are in bondage; organised crime, sex trafficking and drugs are prevalent throughout the country. The population is 94 per cent Buddhist, 4 per cent Muslim and 1 per cent Evangelical Christian, and 99 per cent of the country is considered unreached by the gospel. Pray for the gospel to spread like wildfire through this country that is waiting for the freedom only God can bring.

Please also pray for our mission partners in Thailand, Jason and Tracy Day.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Lebanon: turbulent times

Please pray for Lebanon in times of political and economic turmoil. Pray that politicians in Lebanon come together to find a solution, and also for those seeking to serve the poorest in these difficult times.

North Africa: mission partners in training

Pray for a mission partner family, back from North Africa for a Christmas break and then joining mission partner training before returning to North Africa in the new year.

Mission partners on leave

Pray for Phil and Sylvie Good (Lebanon) and Alison Giblett (Ukraine), both back in the UK for a period of leave and visiting link churches, that this may be a time of refreshment and encouragement.

Worldwide

Please pray for our many people in mission around the world who can’t be with their families at Christmas this year. Pray for them to be able to be fully present where they are, and to enjoy Christmas despite being separated from loved ones.
