Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
Taiwan: prayer for the nation
The island of Taiwan has a population of almost 24 million, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The majority of the population follows a blend of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Please pray for God to break in where nominalism and tradition is keeping people from knowing Jesus. Please pray for mission partner Catherine Lee, working at St John’s University in New Taipei.
South Asia: field testing
Mission partner F, a theological consultant, writes that a new course, Me and My Faith, has started in four different cities. Please pray for constructive feedback so that this course can be published in the New Year. Please also pray for a trial run of the course Me and My God, which F and others hope will be suitable for English schools and English-speaking youth groups in their country as well as more widely used in other countries.
Chile: considering fundamental change
Chile is currently considering changes to its constitution in light of recent nationwide protests following a rise in the price of metro tickets. Please pray for wisdom for decision-makers and for the best possible outcome. Please remember our people in mission in prayer: Gabriel Parra, Nicolas Fuentes and Alf and Hilary Cooper.
Please continue to pray for Bolivia, where the interim government is trying to move towards fresh elections in the midst of protests from supporters of ex-President Evo Morales. Please pray for peace, for just resolutions and for our people in mission there; Franklin Cuenca, Walter Toro and Andrew and Lisa Peart.
Europe, Middle East and North Africa
Spain and North Africa: teaching in Provence
Next week, mission partner T will be teaching a group of students from M and T’s training centre in Spain together with a French-speaking group doing the same course. The two groups have gelled well (following two weeks together in Spain) and interaction with French speakers during this training phase is so helpful ahead of the English-speaking students’ two-month practicum in North Africa. Please pray for T as he teaches, for smooth translation during class, and most of all that the students will receive an impartation of faith and passion for God’s mission as well as covering the academic content.
Jordan: climate change working group
Mission partner Joel Kelling was recently asked to lead the Alliance Climate Change working group; please pray that he is able to facilitate the group well to bring greater connections between the Church and Christian NGOs, while placing God at the heart of the work and helping to create real change in the region.
Tanzania: stepping out of their comfort zone
Mission partner Heather Johnstone asks for prayer for the managers of Rehema’s three different enterprises as they step out of their comfort zones and take on additional responsibilities while Heather is on home leave. Pray also for Heather, for some time to rest in amidst all the busy-ness of home leave.
DR Congo: translation of the 3D training materials into French
Pray for the translation of the 3D youth training materials into French, and for local partner Jeff Sikabwe as he coordinates the translation efforts. Pray for God to guide Jeff as he puts together a team of translators and for God’s hand to be on the translators so that the content is accurately translated and equally powerful in French. Pray for the translations to be understood and used by the majority in DR Congo.
Kenya: rest for several CMS-Africa staff members
Several members of the CMS-Africa staff team are on leave throughout November and December. Please pray for Canon Moses, Karobia and Henry and Mercy and Lucy; for God to replenish them as they take time out to rest and be with their families.
