Prayer News 23 April 2021

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

Psalm 103:2–6

Madagascar: new bishop

Join us in praising God that the Rt Rev Samitiana Jhonson Razafindralambo (currently assistant bishop of Toliara) will be installed as the new bishop of the diocese this coming Sunday. Pray for the bishop as he takes up this role, and for the diocese to grow in faith, hope, love and unity under his leadership.

South Sudan: training for pastors

Local partners Paul and Regina Lueth have recently been training student pastors who are planning to serve in Muslim-majority areas. Praise God for these students and pray for them as they seek to put their learning into practice.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Jordan: new believer

Pray for a new believer from Yemen living in Jordan. Recently saved, he is enthusiastic in his faith and shares the good news with everyone he meets, putting him at risk from those who stand against the gospel. Pray for God’s protection for this man.

Lebanon: Ibrahim and family

Mission partners Phil and Sylvie Good, recently returned to the UK from Lebanon, ask for prayer for Ibrahim, a refugee, and his family. Ibrahim’s son was injured in Syria, and is now unable to walk and in need of good medical care. Pray for God’s provision for Ibrahim’s family and for healing.

Spain: local outreach

Mission partners in Spain thank God for new opportunities to reach out to other people, and ask for prayer for three new people with whom they have recently shared the gospel: M (from Portugal), Y (from Morocco) and T (from Spain). Pray for the seeds our mission partners have planted to grow and bear fruit.

South East Asia: upcoming exams

K and T ask for prayer for their daughter to be able to sit her IB diploma exams at the beginning of May despite local COVID-19 restrictions. Pray for K and T as church moves back online for the next couple of weeks at least; they are hoping this won’t be too disruptive to the ongoing work of getting church back to “normal”. Pray also for T to be able to deliver money and medicine to contacts in need.

Latin America

Vaccine rollout

As record levels of COVID-19 continue in many countries across the region, please pray for improvement of the vaccine rollout across Latin America, which is currently very patchy. Pray for relief for the health services that continue to struggle to cope with such high numbers of patients, for those who are unwell to recover, and for a reduction in cases and deaths soon.

Ecuador: health service struggling

Mission partner Sharon Wilcox asks for prayer for Ecuador which, like many Latin American countries, has no more COVID hospital beds available and is experiencing shortages in the supply of oxygen. Desperate friends and family of those suffering from COVID-19 are paying for oxygen tanks with very little oxygen inside at massively inflated prices so do please pray for a rapid improvement of the situation.

Venezuela: hunger

Hunger is a massive issue among the Venezuelan population, and not because of COVID-19. Venezuela ranks fourth worldwide for those suffering acute food insecurity [], and the country’s economy continues to plummet as Venezuela remains isolated and under sanctions. The UN has now agreed a way of distributing food through schools to help feed the millions who are starving in this oil-rich country. Pray for the food to reach those who need it.
