Prayer news 24 September 2021

Pause with Scripture

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

Lamentations 3:25–26 (NIV)

Africa

South Sudan: food insecurity

Pray for the people of South Sudan, which is facing its highest level of food insecurity since independence, due to flooding having wiped out crops and livestock, and ongoing conflict. Now, 8.3 million people (60 per cent of the population) need food assistance – but humanitarian aid is frequently blocked, convoys attacked and supplies looted. Pray for all who are forced from their homes by violence, flooding or other calamity, and for those agencies or individuals who shelter and care for them. Pray for help to reach those who need it, and for an end to current conflicts.

Africa conference

Please pray for the team organising CMS’s Africa conference next month. The Africa conference will be returning to Swanwick this year, but with the added opportunity to join the main sessions online if you are unable to attend in person. There is still time to book to attend in person at The Hayes (Swanwick), but bookings will close today, 24 September. If you wish to join the conference online, please note that you need to book by 5 October. Latin America

Adelante

Praise God for the Adelante conference and especially for all of the fascinating presentations from participants. It was a joy to hear more of how God is working in Latin America. On the first day the focus was on mission together with indigenous peoples. Please pray for those who presented and for all of CMS’s indigenous partners as we continue to meet together and discern how God is calling us to journey together in mission. Particularly remember in prayer indigenous peoples in Latin America facing ongoing discrimination and injustice.

Paraguay: emerging leaders

Praise God for the emerging leaders among the congregation Bev Richardson leads in Asuncion. One has recently been ordained deacon and another has just begun studying through CMS’s online pioneer training. Please pray for her as she studies and for more people across Latin America to catch the vision of pioneer principles.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Britain: induction and start of studies 2021

The pioneer teaching team write that they have had a successful induction and start to studies for CMS’s new and returning students and look forward to the rest of this academic year. Please pray for all new and returning students; for good relationships and connections among both students and teaching team. Pray that the team will be able to continue teaching well online and in person in this new academic year.

Ukraine: struggling to provide

Mission partner Alison Giblett asks for prayer for people in Ukraine who have lost their source of income due to quarantine and government restrictions. Pray for new jobs so that people are able to provide for their families and no one has to go hungry.

Asia

South East Asia: settling in

Please pray for a family returning to the UK after 16 years working in South East Asia. Pray for T to find the right job, for them to find a larger home and for the whole family as they readjust.

Bangladesh: reopening schools

Bangladesh’s COVID situation has eased somewhat, and the country’s schools have now reopened after 18 months’ closure. Pray for schoolchildren as they readjust to spending time in a school environment, and as they deal with with a setback in their education.
