Prayer News 3 September 2021

Pause with Scripture

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

Psalm 150:6 (NIV)

Sudan and South Sudan: COVID-19 vaccines

Praise the Lord that more doses of the COVID-19 vaccines are arriving and being administered in both countries. Pray for rapid and effective distribution and use of vaccines, and for the many who are further down the priority list.

South Sudan: Maridi diocese

Please pray for Bishop Moses, Chaima Christian Institute staff and students, and clergy throughout the diocese. Pray for spiritual strength and refreshment, and for the provision of basic transport for pastors to enable them to be more effective in their work for the Lord.

Uganda: F4 and COVID-19

Local partner Judith Murungi asks for prayer for a Financial Freedom for Families (F4) course starting this month, for participants to engage with the content of the course and implement what they learn. Please also pray against COVID-19 in Uganda, pray for God to continue to heal and preserve his people through this pandemic.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Israel: settling in in Jaffa

Mission partners Jennifer and Kevin Cable ask for prayer as they settle in to life in Jaffa. Pray for more permanent, affordable accommodation to become available. Praise God for the provision of the right car, and for their language progress which enabled them to complete the purchase in Hebrew.

Latin America

Argentina: mission partners return

Bishop Nick Drayson (now primate of the Anglican Church of South America) and Catherine Le Tissier are now back in Argentina and were due to travel to Salta this week after quarantine in Buenos Aires. “It is almost as though we had never been away, as we begin to pick up threads! So we will of course be responding to what we encounter, but also need to make a few plans for the next couple of years.

“Our priorities include:

  • pastoral care and leadership of local churches and organisations, and more widely in the various dioceses, as they go through a time of transition
  • attend to safeguarding and formación (training)
  • establish and deepen our values in the churches (prayer, gratitude, community, discipleship, evangelism, service and healing)

“So, do continue to pray for us in this new chapter.”

Those affected by the earthquake in Haiti continue to await help and support weeks after the disaster occurred. Corruption, gangs and a distrust of international NGOs has hampered the response. Please pray for help to reach all those who need it.

Young people have been engaging with the project through planting seeds, cooking, being artistic and learning Ecuadorian Sign Language as well as trying to maintain other skills. Praise God that the group are now also able to meet up outside once a fortnight.

Guatemala and Honduras: COVID-19

Please pray for the people of Guatemala and Honduras, which is currently experiencing its peak of the pandemic. Pray for case numbers come down, for healing for all those who are unwell with COVID-19 and the many who have lost loved ones to the virus. Remember in your prayers CMS’s people in mission based there.
