Prayer News 7 January 2022

Pause with Scripture

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)

Brazil: preparing to return

Mission partners Daniel and Sarah Brito Medeiros are thankful they have been able to spend Christmas in the UK with Sarah’s family. Praise God that it was possible for them to travel and have this break. They ask for prayer for God’s plans and purposes for this trip to be fulfilled. When they return to Brazil, they are preparing to start a new dance ministry for women and children. Pray for obstacles to be removed so that this ministry can begin as soon as possible, and for people to meet powerfully with God through it.

Africa

South Sudan and Sudan: COVID vaccines

Some doses of COVID vaccines have recently arrived in Sudan and South Sudan, including 1,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine delivered to Uror county in Jonglei state in South Sudan. Pray for a fair distribution of vaccines; and pray for all whose lives have been disrupted by illness or by preventive measures.

Sudan: resignation of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok

On 2 January, Prime Minister Hamdok resigned, leaving the military in full charge of the country. Mass protests continue, despite a brutal military response – 57 protesters have been killed since October. Pray for a change of heart in the military leaders. Pray for the people of Sudan during this time of political uncertainty and economic hardship.

South Sudan: moving towards peace

President Kiir has undertaken to establish a Commission for Truth and Reconciliation by the end of January, as provided for in the Revitalised Peace Agreement. He has also issued an order banning all military forces from participating in politics or community organisations, and announced the rehabilitation of five more essential trunk roads. However, there is still widespread hunger and distress, and many are still displaced and without food because of flooding. Hunger drives some to violence – recently, armed gunmen attacked a World Food Programme convoy, resulting in one death. Pray for the full implementation of the Peace Agreement, including robust security provision; and pray that aid workers may reach all those in need without being attacked.

Israel: answer to prayer

Following lots of prayer for the right place to live, mission partners Jen and Kevin Cable write that God has provided a new apartment for them in the same building they have been living in since September. Praise God for his provision and the fact that they can stay in this location where they have made some friends and are already building relationships with the shopkeepers and community.

Asia

Afghanistan: desperation

The UN estimates that nearly 23 million Afghans – about 55 percent of the population – are facing extreme levels of hunger. More and more children are having to work to help support their families, amid an economic collapse in the country. In these impossible circumstances, pray for God to act.

Indonesia: natural disaster

On the island of Sumatra, torrential rains have displaced more than 30,000 people and left two children dead, according to the country’s disaster mitigation agency (BNPB), raising fears that the flooding will harm the local economy and lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

South Asia: COVID again

Please pray for mission partner E, who has recently contracted COVID again. Please pray for him to make a full recovery, and for E and R to be able to enjoy some time with their daughter who is visiting them.

South East Asia: mystery condition

Please pray for mission partners B and M and their son, who has been suffering from sore gums, and nosebleeds as often as three to four times a day. The doctors are at a loss, and his condition is getting worse. Pray for God to intervene and bring healing either supernaturally or through medicine.
