Rwanda: prayer for the nation
Rwanda (population 12 million) is best known for the genocide which killed almost a million people and whose legacy carries on today in this deeply wounded East African nation. Despite this, education and health sectors have improved, and the country has one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. Please pray for continued growth in these sectors and provision for widows, orphans and others who have been left destitute by the genocide. Pray for healing for Rwanda, for Christians to lead the way in repentance and reconciliation.
Ethiopia: preparing for home leave
Please pray for mission partners Chris and Suzy Wilson and their three young children as they prepare for home leave and deal with the aftermath of a recent break-in.
Brazil: new ReVive house
The ReVive team, led by mission partners Andy and Rose Roberts, has just opened a new safe house for boys and girls up to the age of five. Please pray for each child coming into the house; for healing from the circumstances that caused them to need to come to ReVive, for them to settle into the house well and for God to prepare a family to adopt each one into a loving, permanent home. Pray for this new safe house to be filled with peace and for the new staff who will be working with the children.
Peru: youth congress
Please pray for South America’s Provincial Youth Congress, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 12 of January which is being held in Lima, Peru. The theme is Sentinels, inspired by Waite Stirling, missionary to Ushuaia who established the first mission there 150 years ago and who was known as “God’s lonely sentinel” in Tierra del Fuego. The Congress will nurture a missional heart in the young people of the province and challenge them to consider what it will look like for them to be God’s sentinels in their context and cultures today and in the future. Pray for a generation to be inspired to join in God’s mission in and from Latin America and for all those organising and speaking at the congress, including mission development manager for Latin America Paul Tester, local partner Anderson Sanchez, mission partner Pat Blanchard and mission associate Juan Carlos Marces.
Argentina: pastoral care for families
This coming week (13-19) in La Caldera, Salta, the diocesan parenting facilitators, including mission partners Shelley Stokes, Nick Drayson and Catherine Le Tissier, are meeting to reflect on the progress of pastoral care in the diocese and how best to minister to families, especially marriages and children. Pray for their meetings; for clear communication, God’s guidance and fresh inspiration as they look ahead.

Spain: new baby
Praise God for a new baby boy born to mission partners in Spain just after Christmas. The family are grateful to everyone who prayed for them throughout the pregnancy, and write that parents and older siblings alike cannot get enough of hugging the latest addition to the family.
Praise God that Fiona and Joel Kelling were able to buy a car before Christmas. Joel asks for prayer for the election of the new coadjutor Bishop for the Diocese of Jerusalem on 30 January.
Britain: Southern conference
Please pray for CMS’s upcoming Southern conference coming up at the end of February. This year’s focus is mission in different contexts, both near and far. Read more and sign up online.
South Asia: wisdom in teaching
Mission partner F requests prayer for herself and her students on the first module, Research Methods, of a new Master of Arts in Christian Studies programme this month, which will start next week (15 January). About half the group have theological qualifications but limited English; the other half have good English but little theology. Please pray for wisdom as F teaches, to pitch it at the appropriate level.
