Ukraine: prayer for the nation

Ukraine has a population of 45 million people, two-thirds of whom count themselves as Orthodox Christians and approximately two per cent as Protestant/Evangelical. Praise God for how far Ukraine has come since being under Soviet rule (which ended in 1991). Pray for the Ukrainian church; for peace and unity, and for our people in mission in Ukraine; local partner Valery Alymov and mission partner Alison Giblett.

Britain: general election

Please pray for the country as the results are announced this morning, for God’s peace which surpasses understanding, regardless of the outcome. Pray for Christians to be unified across political divides.

Britain: CMS pioneer students

Please pray for the CMS pioneer students. The week before last saw a wonderful graduation service for the cohort who have completed their studies with CMS. Last week saw a lovely Christmas party lunch with undergraduate students.

South Asia: graduations

F asks for prayer for all the Bible college students graduating this Saturday (14 December) from two institutions which she has taught at this year. Please pray for these graduates as they begin their ministries as pastors of churches, evangelists and in other forms of service. Pray for the new classes which will start in January. Please pray for all the Christmas activities and services across the country, for peace and security, and for a clear witness to the message of Christmas.

South East Asia: accommodation during home leave

Pray for a mission partner family of four in South East Asia; that they will find accommodation in the Oxford/Banbury area during their home leave in June/July 2020. Do pray in general for the preparations for home leave as it can be a very stressful time trying to get all the logistics organised.

South Sudan: final exams before Christmas

Pray for local partners Paul and Regina Lueth who teach at St John’s College of Theology and Development, and their students who are doing their final exams this week before Christmas. “Also pray that as they go back to the communities that they will take the messages of hope and peace and indeed the Kingdom of God to their context in war-torn South Sudan,” say Paul Lueth.

DR Congo: peacebuilding

Thank God for local partner Bisoke Balikenga’s efforts to build peace amongst Congolese, working with various organisations including MAF to conduct seminars on peacebuilding and discipleship. Thank God for the recent seminar in Bunia attended by hundreds of youth from the Djugu area, at a time when there were reports of killings in Ituri, Beni and Goma. “Many people came to Christ and forgave each other while taking a peace pledge. Pray for the two upcoming seminars that the Lord God would make it possible for them to happen as well as achieve the desired effect: peace with self and peace with one’s neighbour,” says Bisoke.

Latin America

Guatemala and Honduras: Radio Christmas

Radio Christmas, a major fundraising event for Street Kids Direct, starts its live broadcast from Guatemala and Honduras today, 13 December. Please pray for Duncan Dyason and mission partner Steve Poulson as they present and coordinate a lot of it.

Guatemala: keeping the main thing the main thing

Mark and Rosalie Balfour ask for prayer as they welcome lots of guests over the coming weeks, for them to keep their focus on Jesus and hear his voice. Please also pray for protection over their health, their home and for safety while driving in the city.
