I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”Psalm 77:11–12 (NIV)
Europe, the Middle East and North Africa
Ukraine: residency and church growth
We praise God with mission partner Alison Giblett that her registration card and residency has come through. Praise God that her church, Tabernacle of the Living God, baptised five people recently, and the church is now running two services to comply with physical distancing regulations. Pray for the church as they meet together; for God to strengthen them through this time even though they can’t all meet together.
Netherlands: picnic church
Mission partner Berdine van den Toren Lekkerkerker shares that as slightly bigger groups are allowed to meet in the Netherlands, her church is doing picnic church this weekend. Praise the Lord for those who have signed up, pray for those leading picnic church, and for those unable to join.
Israel/Palestine: potential uprising
Pray for Israel/Palestine as coronavirus infection rates have gone up again. Lift the political situation to the Lord; the state of Israel plans to annex the Jordan Valley in July, which could lead to another uprising.
Lebanon: great uncertainty
Pray for this nation which is suffering financial hardship as coronavirus hit just as they were coming out of a near economic collapse. Pray for the Church to bring hope to the hopeless, and peace to those without peace. Pray for safety as airports prepare to reopen on 1 July.
Brazil: the most vulnerable
Cases of coronavirus in Brazil continue to multiply. The country has the second-highest number of both cases and deaths in the world and it is thought the country’s peak may still be weeks away. As CMS people in mission in Brazil serve favela communities through their churches by providing food and access to government support, they ask for prayer for these most vulnerable people.
Chile: strict lockdown
Chile is seeing a large growth in the number of cases of COVID-19 and Santiago continues to be in strict lockdown. As it faces one of the highest infection rates per capita Alf and Hilary Cooper ask for prayer for the church’s witness through its service of the needy, through online services and for thousands in desperate need of hearing the gospel.
Argentina: tired of restrictions
Mission partners David and Shelley Stokes report that many in the Chaco region of northern Argentina are now tiring of restrictions, particularly with regard to church services. Unfortunately, coronavirus is now just beginning to close in on the Chaco region and Argentina is seeing a significant rise in cases of COVID-19. Pray for CMS people in mission in the region such as local partner Bishop Crisanto Rojas and mission partners Bishop Nick Drayson and Catherine Le Tissier who are seeking to ensure safe practices continue.
Paraguay and Ecuador: wisdom around meeting together
As Paraguay continues to reopen, having been relatively successful in containing the spread of COVID-19, mission partner Bev Richardson asks for prayer for wisdom for the Anglican Church in Paraguay as they consider restarting church services in different locations. In Ecuador, mission partner Sharon Wilcox also asks for wisdom for churches there as they make similar decisions in an improving situation.
Burundi: death of president
Pray for Burundians as they mark the death of President Nkurunziza earlier this month. Pray for strength, encouragement and wisdom for Evariste Ndayishime, who was installed as president this week.
South Sudan: peace
Local partner Joseph Noel asks for prayer for peace among different communities in South Sudan, especially among the Nuer Luo and Morelli and Dinka Bor clans in different areas of Lake State. Joseph writes he is grateful to God for the opportunity to collaborate with mission organisation ACROSS in providing CMS-Africa’s transformational leadership training to all programme leaders in ACROSS.
Kenya: day of prayer and fasting
Pray for CMS-Africa as they hold a day of prayer and fasting this coming Tuesday. Pray for those praying together; for them to be of one Spirit and to break through in prayer on the day.
