Prayerspace 31 July 2020

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.

Psalm 34:8–9

South Asia: travelling

Pray for mission partners E and R. R is planning to return to the UK in August for a period while E looks after R’s father (who recently had a fall and broke his hip) at their home in South Asia. Pray that R’s flight will go ahead and for a smooth return to the UK, and for additional help for E during the time R is away.

South East Asia: returning to work

Pray for extra energy and stamina as L has been called back to work although she is currently on maternity leave. Pray that she will have a light workload, still get time with the children and that A will be able to manage at home. Pray also for the school where L works, that it will get official permission to reopen.

Philippines: pray for healing

Please pray for the healing of Lendehl Rey Sallidao, chairman of Jigsaw Ministries in Manila as he is now on oxygen in hospital as a result of contracting COVID-19. Pray also for his wife Faith and their two children at this distressing time. Please also pray for the Jigsaw Ministries team as they reach out to some of the most vulnerable street children in Manila.

South East Asia: travelling

Pray for B and M as they travel to the UK this coming weekend. Pray that the journey will go well and that there will be no problems when entering the UK. Pray that they will settle down quickly and that M will be able to get the necessary care for the rest of her pregnancy and birth of the baby.

Europe, Middle East and North Africa

Spain: pandemic fallout

Mission partners Felipe and Sarah Yanez report that people continue to struggle due to unemployment caused by the pandemic. Pray for local churches as they look for creative ways to meet the needs of their congregations and communities, despite the restrictions in place. Pray for churches to be ever more effective and able to share the good news of Jesus’ love in both word and deed.

Jordan: back to nursery

Fiona and Joel Kelling ask for prayer for their son Aidan to be able to safely return to nursery in August. There is currently no guarantee of a space for him at nursery, and while his English skills and imaginative play have come along in leaps and bounds during lockdown, Fiona and Joel would love for him to be able to return to nursery and continue to develop his Arabic and spend time with his peers.

Middle East: peaceful resolutions

Please pray for the particularly vulnerable people of the Middle East at this time, in Lebanon and Syria, Iraq and Yemen, for peaceful resolutions to conflict, economic opportunities to emerge and the possibility for displaced peoples to return home safely.

UK: end-of-life care

Please pray for Jeremy, who has been connected with SAMS and CMS for many years. Pray for Jeremy as he receives end-of-life nursing care, and for his wife and family at this distressing time, that they may know God’s peace and comfort. (Full name withheld for privacy reasons.)

Latin America

Paraguay: travelling

Pray for those travelling to and around Paraguay. Mission partner Tim Curtis is hoping to travel from the UK back to Paraguay on 9 August and will then have to quarantine for two weeks. Pray for his journey and that he would soon be back home in Rio Verde in the Paraguayan Chaco. Pray also for mission associate Chris Hawksbee who will be travelling from Asunción to the Chaco in the coming week for the first time since lockdown restrictions were imposed.

Argentina: recent deaths

Mission partner Shelley Stokes asks for prayer for the Anglican churches in Ingeniero Juarez, Northern Argentina, where four leaders of churches have died (not due to coronavirus) in the last three months.

Argentina: AMARE meeting

Mission partner Catherine Le Tissier, normally in Northern Argentina but currently in the UK, asks for prayer for a province-wide online meeting of AMARE (Mothers’ Union in South America) that she is organising today. Pray for this meeting to inspire growth in this ministry.

South Sudan: practical support

Local partner Paul Lueth urges us to thank God for the practical support CMS-Africa was able to give to 14 families during this difficult time. High food prices as well as reduced employment have made it difficult for many families to make ends meet. These 14 families received food parcels including maize flour and cooking oil. Pray for God to continue to meet these families’ needs.

Tanzania: Bible school students

Local partner Paul Kibona asks for prayer for Bible school students in Kondoa diocese who have just graduated. Pray for strength and wisdom as they go back to work in their locations.

Uganda: supporting local families

Local partner Judy Murungi has recently been able to channel food aid to 26 vulnerable families in her local community. Praise God for this demonstration of his love, which, in the words of CMS-Africa, is “most likely is the only gospel her neighbours have read”. Pray for God to work in the lives of each of these families.
