What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole. 1 Peter 1:3—5 (MSG)
Peru: prayer for the nation
Please pray for peace and stability for this nation of over 30 million people after decades of corruption. Pray for Christians to boldly oppose sin and injustice, to reflect Jesus to the surrounding culture and to reach out to the poor.
As of this week, Peru is facing a political crisis. President Martin Vizcarra announced this week he was dissolving Congress and that new elections would take place in January. At the same time Congress debated and announced the president’s removal and the installation of the vice president (Mercedes Araoz) in his place. The armed forces have announced their support for President Vizcarra. Please pray for calm, stability and peace in the country and for a wise and speedy solution and of course for all our people in mission in Peru, including local partner Anderson Sanchez and mission partners Pat Blanchard, Paul and Sarah Tester and Anna Sims.
Ecuador: protests against drastic changes
Please pray for the people of Ecuador. Late on Tuesday the government announced some drastic changes which have already come into effect. Fuel has been increased by 25-50% (subsidies removed) and public employee contracts have been altered. As a result, all public transport operators are on indefinite strike. People are protesting everywhere. Please pray for peace, and that the government would at least look at imposing gradual changes. The fuel increase has a knock-on effect for everyone and prices will rocket.
Argentina and Bolivia: recording of Chorote New Testament
A joint venture between Bible Societies in Bolivia and Argentina is making preparations this week for the recording of the New Testament in Chorote later this year. Rolando Villena and mission partner Nick Drayson will work closely with readers from the Chorote churches in Northern Argentina, where there have recently been some disagreements about who should take part in the project. The translation was published in 1997 but is still not widely used. Pray that this project will overcome differences and make the Word more easily available to all the Chorote people.
Kenya: people in mission conference
Please pray for the people in mission conference to be held 14–19 October in Nairobi; for rest and recreation for those involved in mission work, opportunities to explore collaboration between CMS-Africa and CMS, and especially for those facilitating sessions over the five days.
Kenya: churches being empowered to serve God better
Local partner Kenneth Buluku is involved in training theological students, conducting training from his church which is based in an informal settlement near Nairobi. Praise God that Kenneth’s work is bearing fruit, that pastors are empowered with skills in pastoral care and counselling and preaching more meaningfully in their congregations. Many churches Kenneth works with are now not merely inward-looking, but are serving in and with their communities. Pray for God to continue to use Kenneth’s work to bless and grow churches.

Jordan: licences and a car
Give thanks that Fiona, Joel and Aidan Kelling’s long-awaited residency permits have finally come through, meaning they can start the process of getting driving licences and a car. Please pray for them to find an appropriate, affordable car and for the continued development of relationships with Jordanians.
Please pray for Peter, regional manager for Asia as he travels throughout the region, meeting and encouraging people in mission. Pray for safety, stamina and for him to be an encouragement to those he spends time with.
Give thanks for CMS mission network meetings which have taken place this week in the US. Pray for these meetings to foster ongoing partnership across nations for God’s glory and to lead to fruitful outcomes.
