Praying with the seasons [11] Re-shaping (Advent)

These prayer exercises put together words and action, mixing inner stillness with outer movement. Text and images by Ian Adams, mission spirituality adviser for Church Mission Society.

[11] Re-shaping (Advent)

During the Advent season we can work with prayer as a possible location for our re-shaping.

What shape are you in? This is not about how physically fit you are (though that needs our attention) but what kind of shape do you sense your whole being is in? Whatever our shape, Advent is a time for re-shaping us for love for God, for neighbour and self.

As you go into prayer let your body (or if that’s too difficult perhaps just your hand) take on the ‘shape’ that you are in. Not what you think you should be, but what you are. If that means flat on the floor, so be it. As you pray let Jesus the Christ do his re-shaping work, allow your body and spirit to take on a new shape…

Coming Jesus
See the shape that I am in
Re-shape me for a life of love
