Sound [2] Making sound

In the book of Genesis creation is described as beginning in the sound of something spoken. These prayer exercises explore the gift of sound in prayer, and our participation in this gift now through the hearing and making of sound.

In this series of prayer exercises we are exploring the place and possibility of sound in prayer. In this exercise our focus in on the making of sound.

[2] Making sound

In Judaeo-Christian tradition the process of creation and recreation is a continuous one in which God invites us to participate. If you are able to do so, take a walk, run or cycle. Let this be your prayer and as you do so listen to the sounds that come to you. Let the sound of your feet, of your breathing or of your bike wheels add their own sound to the joyful sound of all creation being sustained and renewed. Here is a prayer you may like to use.

Jesus the Christ
With every step, with every breath, with every turn, help me to join in the joyful sound of all creation being sustained and renewed
Amen
