A small-group Bible study series that delves into four of the main myths about mission we encounter. Untangle fact from fiction with videos, reflections, activities and prayer.
We hear it all the time: “I can’t be in mission because…”
But Church Mission Society believes that “the call is for all”. All of God’s people are called to join in God’s mission, whether that means going overseas or over the road.
So when we see things holding some Christians back from living out this call, it makes us a bit blue. Because we know that if (or when) every Christian puts their call into action, the world will be a very different place.
One thing holding some Christians back from mission are “myths” or misconceptions that persist around what mission is…or isn’t.
There are lots of these myths. For the sake of this study we’ve narrowed it down to our top four.
- Myth 1: Mission means we have to save the world.
- Myth 2: Mission is primarily a western thing.
- Myth 3: Mission is about doing things for people in need.
- Myth 4: Mission is for extraordinary people.
Some people might have already considered and challenged some of these myths; for others this might be the first time you’ve thought about them. We think diversity of views and experiences is a good thing in a small group context. It’s fun to share insights and perspectives with each other.
Each session includes a group activity, biblical reflection, prayer and a video where you’ll hear from people in the CMS community who are living out their call either in the UK or overseas.
As you “bust” these four myths together as a group, our hope is that if there’s anything holding you back from mission, you’ll be set free from whatever that might be. And we hope you’ll take a further step in God’s mission, if not with Church Mission Society, then with someone – but preferably with Church Mission Society.
