Jim Barker is a firm believer in the importance of people over programmes, and passionate about sustainability in mission and development. 

Before coming to Church Mission Society, he had roles with Oxfam and Friends of the Earth. He has also worked with Tearfund and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. 

Jim has spoken to churches around the world and leads CMS training on pioneer mission leadership helping to raise up lay and ordained mission leaders in the Anglican, Baptist and Methodist churches. 

Within the UK, Jim is an active leader in the Fresh Expressions movement, and has spoken at conferences and workshops related to mission, resourcing mission, and development. He is committed to seeing the church grow through building mission-focussed communities. 

Jim is married to Mary, and they have two children. He is a keen photographer, and enjoys films and cooking.
