“There is life at the edges…”

In July, Church Mission Society celebrated how God is at work with partners from around the world.

During a special gathering, leaders from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the UK connected across languages and cultures, working together to see lives transformed through the love of Jesus.

The CMS offices in Oxford were filled with fellowship and fun as staff and international mission leaders connected face to face.

All we heard and discussed was summed up in the repeated refrain from mission director Andy Roberts: “There is life at the edges!”

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the week began with a communion service, at which Joan Busolo, CMS manager in Africa, encouraged us to be free from fear.

Making a joyful noise to the Lord: leaders from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the UK led the staff in worship.

Pastor Joel Millanguir from Chile prays powerfully

Canon Moses Bushendich of CMS-Africa told stories of life at the edges in areas affected by armed conflict, shared challenges faced in DR Congo and South Sudan, and spoke of CMS-Africa’s vision to make disciples of Jesus who will work for peace.

Johnny Sertin, leading CMS’s mission movement in Britain, spoke of connecting with the 85 per cent of non-churchgoers who say they wouldn’t go to a church.

Joel Millanguir from Chile led the staff in prayer for CMS-Africa’s work.

We long to see our world made new through the love of Jesus – and that starts with prayer. Leaders from different regions led the staff in prayer for the others present and those they represented.

CMS-Africa welcomes new chair

Canon Dr Rebecca Nyegenye succeeds Canon Dr John Senyonyi

Rev Canon Dr Rebecca Nyegenye was elected as the new chair of the CMS-Africa board on 18 May 2022.

She succeeds Rev Canon Dr John Senyonyi who served as a board member for six years, three of which he was chair.

Dr Nyegenye is currently the provost of All Saints Cathedral, Kampala.

Before her appointment as provost, she served as the chaplain of Uganda Christian University.

She holds a PhD in biblical studies.

Rebecca is passionate about Christian mission with a particular emphasis on discipleship.

She values prayer and intercession as a driver of mission and is a preacher and teacher of the gospel.
