Lebanon: people in desperate circumstances

More than 1.4 million people in Lebanon have had to leave their homes due to airstrikes. Please pray for every person who has been displaced as they face ongoing instability, fear and lack of safety. In the midst of these incredibly difficult circumstances, pray for people to turn to Jesus and find hope in him. Many Christians in Lebanon are doing their best to help those most in need despite their own suffering. Pray for provisions such as emergency food packs and blankets to be multiplied and to reach all in need.

Middle East: peace

Give thanks for the US–Iran agreement to extend the countries’ ceasefire, which is now in effect. Pray for the ceasefire to hold, and ultimately for peace to come to every part of the Middle East. Pray for people across the region to turn to Jesus. This week CMS staff heard from S, a Syrian refugee in Lebanon who began her life in a conservative Muslim family. S shared about her journey to faith in Jesus and her discipleship work with other Muslim-background believers at her church. Pray for continued strength for S, for the rest of her family to come to know Jesus, and for many more people to come to faith across the Middle East.

Middle East: wisdom, peace in the face of adversity

Partners in the Middle East ask for prayer for wisdom in leading churches and making decisions in light of the current conflicts, economy and political climate. Pray for peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) for Christians across the region to find strength in God, and for boldness in sharing the gospel with people.

Middle East: training for young Christian leaders

Give thanks for a training programme for Christian leaders from Muslim backgrounds which has been taking place this week and is drawing to a close this weekend. Pray for the leaders participating in the training to draw encouragement from their time with other leaders in the region and discover new ideas and fresh strength for their ministry. Pray for safety as they all travel home at the end of the weekend.

Lebanon: ongoing conflict

Southern Lebanon has recently been hit by waves of Israeli strikes. At least 11 people have died as a result of the latest strikes, according to the Lebanese health ministry. In Tyre, residents are being urged to evacuate in anticipation of more strikes. Pray for God to turn hearts to peace and ultimately for resolution. Pray for all who are affected by this conflict – for comfort for those who are grieving and a way forward together.

Middle East: suffering in displacement camps

Embrace the Middle East reports that conditions in Gaza’s displacement camps are “catastrophic” due to overcrowding and a lack of clean water, sanitation and hygiene. A shortage of medical supplies means hospitals are increasingly struggling to provide healthcare. Pray for God to make a way for aid to enter Gaza and reach those who need it most, and for an end to the conflict.

Lebanon: a country and a region in crisis

Lebanon is suffering a “humanitarian catastrophe in every sense of the word”, according to Barham Salih, the United Nations high commissioner for refugees. Over one million people – a fifth of the country’s population – has been displaced as a result of the war over the past few weeks. Pray for provision of shelter, food, drinking water, medication, mattresses and blankets. Pray for people to turn to Jesus across the Middle East and find hope in him. Ask God to turn people’s hearts to peace and for leaders to work together for resolution.

Our partners in Lebanon ask us to pray for the millions displaced by the current war in Lebanon and the wider Middle East, especially vulnerable Syrian refugees facing prejudice. Ask for God’s provision of shelter, medical care, and daily necessities amid economic crisis, and for an immediate end to violence, missile attacks, and regional instability. Pray that the Lebanese Christian community will be strengthened to serve all people with Jesus’ compassion. Pray that hope would replace fear, and that those seeking help would find peace and refuge through the church’s faithful witness.
