More than 200 years of saying thank you
The Church Mission Society story began more than 200 years ago with a group of Christians whose hearts were stirred to go to the edges, following the call of Jesus.
CMS was founded in London on 12 April 1799. The group included people like John Venn, John Newton and William Wilberforce. Together, they worked to abolish the slave trade, they fought for the rights of oppressed people at home and they launched out onto dangerous seas to share Jesus with the world.
And today, we are grateful that Jesus still calls us to follow him, together, to be with the people he loves to be with – the people at the edges…
